Its midnight when a college buddy texted me and greets me a happy birthday, I was touched when a friend out of touch remembered to me on my day. Of course there is my loving boyfriend who greeted me exactly at 12 midnight. Then after reading a chapter of my book I went to sleep.

The phone rings irritatingly enough to rouse me in my slumber. It is my mom greeting me a happy birthday. It is too early and I’m still sleepy, then as I go back to bed to continue my interrupted sleep when my cellphone received a message from my best friend with the same greeting.

Its 12 noon, the sun shines brightly. Its time for me to get up and get ready to go to my-so-called work. As I arrive at the office my friends greeted me. Then we started viewing a really really old film (older than my mom), it is a black and white film that we have to remaster for DVD release. After viewing 2 lengthy films, running 3 hours each, I gave a treat to the restoration group a bunch of turon for mirienda. Hehehe, what a cheap birthday treat! I am so broke and the sad thing is… its my birthday! grrr! I only got 150 pesos left in my wallet, but it doesnt bothers me at all, because I will get my talent fee from my last project tomorrow and then Im rich again!!! Hehehe, it will be enough for two weeks allowance. Then after finishing those classic films and eating all the turons we decided to call it a day.

On my way home, while struggling just to get in the LRT mush pit I suddenly realized that it is a Friday (the only day where our company releases pay checks). Thats my problem when I dont have any calendar in my room. I keep on forgetting the days!!! I thought it was a Thursday!!! Its so stupid of me being broke and not to know what day it was.

Then I reached home. When demer arrived I told him about how my stupid birthday went, then he started to make fun of my stupidity by teasing me for the rest of the night. As a result of my financial brokenness, instead of dinning out we just bought fish and a couple of vegetables in the market and cooked it for dinner. Late that night i am touched that there are people that do not forget to greet me.

And then the day was over.

Today, when I got up from bed I was surprised when I received some messages that I dont expect. Some people are still greeting me a belated happy birthday. But this time I am not moved by the message. Its from people that just being “nice just because its my day.” (as the saying goes: everybody is nice to you because its your birthday)

It sucks when people only remembers to greet you because they want to get drunk or eat a meal for free. Its so annoying when people greet you for just the sake of having greeted you and thats all, pretending to be nice. Or having people saying, happy birthday, painom ka naman! or happy birthday! nung handa? as if obliging me to have a blow out, and shame on me if I dont! hello? why would they just wait to get invited!!! Or if theren is a party and you invited them, you they will act as if they are so in to you and as if they really care for you as a friend. But after that party or for the rest of the days remaining in the calendar before it will be your birthday again, they will just act as if you don’t exist or worse, act mean (that’s really what they are in the first place) just like someone I know (ang plastik!).

There is only one thing that can please me on my birthday. just greet me with an honest greeting thats all.

The bottom line? I hate hypocrites.
